Cottage Pie

Serves 4-6 | Prep time: 30min | Cook time: 25min | Ready in 55 minutes!

An aussie winter favourite made Hepi & Co style. 


2 Tbsp Olive Oil

1 Onion

4 garlic cloves

1 carrot

1 stick celery

1 Tbsp Tomato Paste

500g Beef Mince

1 Tbsp plain flour

125ml (1/2 cup) red wine

2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

2 cups beef stock

2 bay leaves

2 sprigs thyme (1 tsp dried)

For the Mash:

4 potato's

50g butter

2 Tbsp milk

1 garlic clove

1/4 cup parmesan cheese

Grated cheddar to top


  1. Preheat Oven 200 degrees and get started on the mash.
  2. Heat olive oil in pan over medium heat and add onion and garlic until softened, add carrot and celery and cook for 3 minutes. 
  3. Add tomato paste, mince and cook until almost brown, sprinkle over flour and pour in the wine. Heat for 2 minutes to reduce the alcohol then add remaining ingredients and simmer on medium low for 15 minutes (add water if mixture is too thick). 
  4. Put the mince mixture into an oven proof container, spread mash over and top with chedar cheese. 
  5. Bake until golden brown (Approx. 15 minutes)
